Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon

Dr Deepak WilliamsDr Deepak Williams is a vascular and endovascular surgeon and medical director of North Coast Vascular.  His undergraduate qualifications were completed in 1985 at Rajasthan University in Jaipur India and Christian Medical College in Ludhiana India, and he completed his internship in New Delhi’s largest public hospital at the time – Safdarjang Hospital.

Dr Williams post-graduate interest in surgery began when he undertook surgical training in the UK. He then moved to New Zealand to further his studies. Being a foreign medical graduate with a primary degree from India, Dr Williams had to redo his surgical training in New Zealand, which culminated in his being awarded his FRACS in 2000.

He moved to Melbourne in 2001 to work as a Fellow in Vascular Surgery to further his studies. He was awarded his FRACS in Vascular Surgery by the Australasian College of Surgeons in 2004.

Dr Williams took up practice at Lismore, as a specialist Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon in 2004 and was the first specialist endovascular surgeon in the region.  He currently consults at St Vincent’s Hospital Lismore and Lismore Base Hospital. He also holds appointments as visiting vascular surgeon to Ballina Hospital.

Dr William’s areas of special interest include:

  • Hybrid vascular surgery combining open surgery and endovascular (or minimally invasive) procedures to deliver better patient outcomes.
  • Minimally invasive surgery for Hyperhidrosis
  • Amputations
  • Dialysis fistula surgery

Having been involved with the teaching of medical students and junior doctors since 1988, Dr Williams was appointed as Junior Lecturer by Melbourne University while working in Melbourne. He now is heavily involved with training the next generation of doctors rotating through Lismore Base Hospital and medical students coming through the University Departments of Rural Health program.

When not in surgery, Dr Williams has a keen interest in cricket, loves reading good detective novels and can be found taking his dogs for yet another walk around the block.
